What is the Release Date and Development Timeline?

GTA 6 is set to be released in the fall of 2024 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, narrowing down the previously broader window of 2025. The game has been in development for nearly a decade, having reportedly started in 2014, making it one of the longest development periods for a GTA installment.

What are the Expectations?

Both industry observers and the game’s makers, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, agree that Grand Theft Auto 6 has the potential to be the most significant video game ever made. GTA 6 has huge expectations after selling 200 million copies of its predecessor, GTA 5. The game is expected to have “tremendous growth” after it is released, according to Take-Two’s fiscal reports, underscoring its importance financially.

Setting and Map

Inspired by Miami, GTA 6 will revisit Vice City and expand to a more expansive, realistic geography encompassing regions like Leonida, Vice Dale County, Leonard County, and Kelly County. The game’s map is static and will be expanded through updates after launch. Originally, the area was supposed to be twice the size of GTA 5.

The trailer departs from the ostentatious aesthetics of previous Vice City representations by showcasing muted, and iconic settings symbolic of Florida’s way of life.

What are the Characters and Plot

For the first time, GTA 6 will feature a female protagonist, Lucia, alongside a male character. The storyline hints at a romance-crime theme to Bonnie and Clyde, focusing on their journey from rags to riches. Lucia has a backstory involving incarceration and parole, setting the stage for a gritty, crime-driven narrative.

Platform Availability

The game will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no immediate plans for a PC release.

What is the Pricing Structure?

While rumors suggest a high price point of $150, it’s more likely the game will be priced around $70, consistent with current AAA game pricing. However, the extensive development costs ($1-2 billion) could justify a high price.
